Two job opportunities have become available with First Cut! Youth Film Festival. We are seeking skilled, dynamic people to join our team in the areas of administration and social media management.

Administrator Job Description

First Cut Youth Film Festival wishes to recruit and hire a part-time festival Administrator to support the festival director and FCYFF team in the delivery of the 2021 festival. The administrator will:

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of the festival, including setting up and maintaining effective office systems, handling telephone and email enquiries, maintaining clerical and archive systems.
  • Communication through email in particular; replying to enquiries and providing information and taking bookings.
  • Generally supporting the development of this programme for young people through preparing correspondence and reports
  • Supporting the Festival Director in sourcing new funding opportunities. – Ongoing Bookkeeping & Accounts.
  • Proof read all materials for accuracy
  • Assistance with documentation, archiving, videoing and other recording processes for funding applications, archival and promotional use.

The start date for the part-time administration position is Monday February 15th and the end date is Friday June 4th and may then be extended, subject to funding.

This contract is for a total of 16 weeks, with approx. 10 hours per week amounting to 160 hours spread over a 4-month period, with an hourly rate of €15, with responsibility for own tax returns. Total €2400. Closing date for applications is Friday 5th Feb.

The festival will consider remote candidates for this position, though the ability to be in the Cork area for key meetings (subject to Covid-19 restrictions) and for the dates of festival events is an advantage.

Essential skills:

Excellent computer skills including word, mail merge, database management, excel spreadsheets.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Experience of bookkeeping, income + expenditure
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Ability to take the initiative and work well as part of a team
  • An interest in working with young people and in the arts, especially in film is desirable but is not essential

First Cut Youth Film Festival was set up in 2009 to focus solely on young filmmakers, providing events tailored to their needs and artistic development – to screen, network and learn from each other and from professionals in an enjoyable, safe and nurturing environment, enabling them to build confidence & develop their skills.

Annually since then this free event has created much-needed opportunities and support for young emerging filmmakers from culturally diverse backgrounds to engage, network & showcase short films. It has provided a range of interactive events for filmmakers aged 12-25, encouraging broad participation locally, nationally, and internationally.

The 2021 festival will be its twelfth edition and will be online, reaching out to a wider audience across Ireland and abroad. It will offer its usual rich programme of screenings, workshops and talks in a safe and inclusive virtual format.

Social Media Management Job Description

First Cut Youth Film Festival wishes to recruit and hire a part-time social media manager to support the delivery of the 2021 festival; to compose and post content on and oversee the festival’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and initiate a TikTok account); to link to live streaming events and update and monitor First Cut social media pages; and to work with the festival team to actively shape and project an identity and a social media presence for the festival that is new, vibrant and reflects the festival’s youthful audience. Social media is more important than ever as this edition of First Cut will be completely online for the first time.

This initial part-time contract is for a total of 260 hours, 10 hours per week, increasing to 20 hours a week for three weeks over the festival period (April 17th – May 9th). Hours are spread over a period from February 1st to June 4th, with an hourly rate of €15. The contract may then be extended, subject to funding.
