Communications Coordinator
About the Role
This is an exciting new role at First Cut, this person will be responsible for managing and enhancing the festival’s social media presence and other marketing channels, creating compelling content to engage audiences, building the festival’s online and in-person community, and generally promoting the festival.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Researching, creating and editing relevant and engaging content for use on social media, website and email. Required skills: copywriting, creating graphics and e-flyers, and basic video editing
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / Canva or other photo editing software is a bonus.
- Experience with video editing software like Capcut to make quick quick videos
- Support in updating the website. Familiarity with WordPress is an advantage
- Managing and regularly updating First Cut’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & TikTok).
- Researching groups and online communities to engage with the festival
- Developing and managing an online marketing campaign with the help of the team in the lead up to, and during, the festival.
- During the festival, being on site every day to post live stories, get content of attendees etc
- Gather promotional assets for use for the following year including participant testimonials, clips, photos etc
- General administrative and marketing duties including emails and drafting press releases.
- Flexible hours to attend team meetings online and offline
- Continuous tracking and monitoring of the festival’s online engagement (website traffic, social media stats etc.) to help improve the festival’s visibility within its target audience.
Person Specification
Required:
- Outstanding organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to prioritise, balance multiple priorities, and work fast and effectively under pressure
- Experience of, or aptitude to understand, technical processes for film exhibition
- Ability to plan and communicate plans effectively to others
- Ability to work as a supportive team member
- Willingness to be flexible around the festival period
- Understanding of and commitment to the cultural and education aims of First Cut! Youth Film Festival
Desirable:
- Experience in PR is advantageous.
- Enthusiasm and demonstrable interest in youth film, young people and cinema culture in general.
- Degree level education or equivalent
First Cut! Youth Film Festival is a unique festival in the youth film landscape. One of Ireland’s most established youth film events, it is now in its 16th year. It is ambitious and innovative in its approach to celebrating youth film and engaging young people in all aspects of film making in the run up to and throughout the annual festival itself. Located in Youghal in County Cork, First Cut provides a unique opportunity for young people to engage in all aspects of film.
The festival programme is carefully curated to ensure a wide range of voices and identities are represented, with an ongoing focus on such specific areas as animation, films in Irish and music video. It ensures active engagement for young filmmakers aged 12-25 through its panels, workshops, networking and mentoring opportunities. The programme is supported and enriched by excellent partners, local and national. The centrality of its Youth Advisory Council is of note, ensuring that young people play a significant role in the evaluation and framing of the festival.
The festival is a registered charity and takes place annually over 6 days in March at the spectacular Regal Cinema in Youghal, Co Cork. It is supported by the Arts Council and Cork County Council and many other diverse funders and sponsors.
