Tá áthas orainn i First Cut! a fhógairt go bhfuil an clár scannánaíochta trí Ghaeilge, ‘Athrú Amháin’ ar ais, ar bhuíochas le tacaíocht ón gComhairle Ealaíon agus an Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí. Tionscnamh atá sa chomórtas seo do scannánóirí óga chun gearrscannán, idir 1-2 nóiméad ar fad, a chruthú i nGaeilge, a fhiosraíonn an téama d’athraithe aeráide agus réitigh aeráide.

We are delighted to announce the return of this innovative filmmaking through Irish programme Athrú Amháin thanks to the support of The Arts Council and Cork County Council. This competition is an initiative for young people to make short films, between 1-2 minutes long, in the Irish language that explore the themes of climate change and climate solutions.

This year First Cut Youth Film Festival is excited to announce the Micheál O’ Loingsigh Memorial, Irish Language Youth Filmmaker Award.

We are opening this exciting competition to two age groups: 12 to 14 and 15 to 18. Working individually or in groups you are invited to make a short film in the Irish language that explores climate change and climate solutions.

Any approach to this theme is welcomed: documentary, drama, animation or even comedy. 

The important thing is that your short films must have:

1. a) An Irish Language element, this can include for example Irish poetry or music.
2. b) A focus on climate change and represent young people’s views and feelings on this important issue.
3. c) A duration of 2 minutes or less.
4. d) English subtitles, where Irish is spoken.

 

HOW TO ENTER THIS COMPETITION

STEP 1: Register to enter this film competition HERE before the 6th of December. 

You can enter as an individual or a group/class. 

STEP 2: When you register, we will email you a FREE Athrú Amháin Support Pack with access to online Filmmaking Workshops, which includes step-by-step guidelines on how to script, shoot and edit your film. You can follow these interactive practical lessons as a group or on your own, at your own pace. 

STEP 3: Send your film, up to 2 minutes long, to us at firstcutfestathruamhain@gmail.com before the 15th of January.

STEP 4: Enjoy your film on the big screen at an exciting Screening and Awards Event on the 5th of March 2025, in the Regal Cinema, Youghal. All filmmakers will be invited to this FREE EVENT!
