About Cork Young Filmmakers

Cork Young Filmmakers, (CYF), is a Cork County Council Youth Arts Training Programme, focussed on creating filmmaking opportunities for young people aged 14-18. It is managed by Cork Film Centre and funded by Cork County Council, SECAD, Cork ETB and Creative Ireland. It aims to provide opportunities for young people from throughout County Cork to access opportunities in filmmaking that they would otherwise not have.

For the past sixteen years, CYF has been bringing hands-on filmmaking workshops annually to hundreds of young people throughout County Cork. A vibrant hands-on youth filmmaking training programme, it takes place in schools, youth groups and arts settings, with one, two and five-day workshops, all with professional filmmakers and equipment. Participants make films and learn new skills, having fun, building confidence and creativity.

Working in small teams, young people learn to work as part of a crew sharing roles – everyone gets a chance to explore the creative and technical sides of filmmaking. It also helps develop critical thinking, communication and teamwork – skills that are relevant in all walks of life.
