9.30am Animania! A Day at the Movies

An event for local primary school pupils who participated in a series of animation workshops initiated by First Cut! Not only will the participants see their films on the big screen but they will also enjoy a whole animation-themed programme designed especially for them.


3.30pm Acting for Film Workshop with John McCarthy

A workshop for anyone aged 14-18 with an interest in acting for camera with Cork-based actor/writer/director John McCarthy.

10.30am Schools Open Call Programme

A selection of short films entered by school groups from across the country and beyond.


1.30pm Cork Film Centre City Workshop Films

Films from one-day filmmaking workshops run by Cork Film Centre in Cork City during 2017/2018.


6.30pm First Cut! Family Film Evening

Short animated films from the Animania primary school animation workshops screened with the Cartoon Saloon classic The Secret of Kells.

11am Cork Young Filmmakers Programme

Films made through Cork Young Filmmakers workshops in 2017/2018. Cork Young Filmmakers is a long-running and wide-reaching workshop programme for young people in Cork County run by Cork Film Centre

A diverse programme of short films selected from the First Cut! Open Call.


1pm Changing Attitudes – Women in Film & Television Panel

A panel discussion on women in film and television that brings together women at different stages in their filmmaking careers for a conversation on the challenges of creating in what has traditionally been a male dominated field.


2.15pm Special Guest: Mark Mullery (Cartoon Saloon)

Cartoon Saloon’s Mark Mullery, the festival’s special guest, will then treat us to a look behind the scenes of the Oscar-nomianted animation feature The Breadwinner.


3pm Emerging Filmmakers Spotlight

A special focus on two emerging filmmakers, Arran Tenzin Bradstock and Robert K. Buckley.


4pm Spotlight Young Adults Open Call Programme

Spotlight is the First Cut! open call programme dedicated to filmmakers in their early twenties either in  lm school or working independently.


5.30pm Music Video Open Call Programme

A programme of music videos selected from the First Cut! Open Call.


6pm YMVC – Youth Music Video Competition

First Cut! partners with Feel Good Lost in this music video mentoring scheme. Six young filmmakers were selected by director Brendan Canty and producer David Lester Mooney to make a music video under their mentorship. These videos will be premiered at this event.


7pm Live Music Event

Live music by the popular Tim Chadwick and the haunting sounds of electrofantasy artist NIMF.
