Friday 8th, 10.00am/1pm, The Regal Cinema
Next Steps is a special presentation for First Cut! secondary school audiences that explores ways for young people to take filmmaking a step – or several steps! – beyond the Cork Young Filmmakers (CYF) one-day workshops. Whether you are interested in pursuing film into third level education and a possible career, or simply want to enjoy it as a hobby, Next Steps will offer food for thought and inspiration.
This session begins with a screening of Blink, a film made as part of a CYF week long summer workshop. Participants will share their experiences of how this workshop deepened their knowledge of filmmaking.
This is followed by Future Crimes, an elaborately plotted thriller made by Future Filmmakers, a group of young people mentored by Cork Film Centre. Developed from a story devised by the group, the film was shot over a two-week period last summer in Ballincollig, Co. Cork. The participants in this ambitious project began making films at CYF workshops and their passion for the craft led to the formation of Future Filmmakers. Members of the cast and crew will present Future Crimes and discuss its making with the audience. Future Crimes was funded by a Ballincollig/Carrigaline Municipal District Creative Communities Award.
Finally, emerging filmmaker and musician Arran Tenzin Bradstock composed the soundtrack for Future Crimes. A prolific director in his own right, he began making films in his teens that garnered notice and awards. Having completed the Advanced Film & Television Production course at St. John’s Central College, he is currently studying Experimental Sound Practice, an MA programme at UCC. He attended Cork Young Filmmakers workshops while still in school. He now teaches on them. Arran will discuss his work and share his experiences of taking the next steps into a filmmaking career.
