First Cut! Family Film Evening

Thursday March 7th, 7pm, The Regal Cinema

The Family Film Evening features films made at a series of hands-on animation workshops for primary school students in Youghal and surrounding areas followed by a feature presentation: Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar-nominated The Breadwinner. This event is open to the public. It is free but ticketed and can be booked through Eventbrite.

Animania! Animation Shorts

A programme of short films by local primary school pupils who participated in a series of animation workshops initiated by First Cut! and facilitated by Paper Panther Animation. Using a range of animation techniques, pupils from Bunscoil Mhuire, South Abbey National School, Gaelscoil Choráin, Clonpriest National School, Kyle National School, Park National School and the secondary school Pobalscoil na Trionoide became filmmakers for a day! All of these workshops were made possible through the generous support of Cork County Council and Youghal Credit Union.

The Breadwinner (Nora Twomey)

Based on the best-selling children’s novel by Deborah Ellis, The Breadwinner tells the story of 11-year-old Parvana who gives up her identity by becoming a storyteller to provide for her family and try to save her father’s life. The making of this Oscar-nominated feature by renowned Irish animation company Cartoon Saloon was the subject of a special focus at the 2018 First Cut! Festival. We are delighted to be able to share the completed film with our audiences this year. The Breadwinner is a celebration of children – for children, whatever their age, wherever they live.
